eToro API PATCH /api/v2/trading/positions/{positionId}
Changes or clears the stop loss and take profit on an open real account position. The request is queued: a 202 reply means it was accepted, not applied.
Risk warning: CFDs and spread bets are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You can lose money on these products, and each provider publishes its own loss figure under FCA rules. You should consider whether you understand how they work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Automated and API trading can amplify losses through bugs, connectivity failures and runaway orders.
Read on eToro's own reference page on 12 Oct 2026: method, path, parameters and the top level response fields. Needs a Write key (OAuth scope etoro-public:real:write or etoro-public:trade.real:write). At least one of the body fields is required. Success is HTTP 202. Documented rate limit: 60 requests per 60 seconds, the default quota shared by endpoints with no limit of their own.

Authentication headers
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| x-api-keyrequired | string | Your public API key, which identifies the application. Sent with x-user-key; eToro's reference says an OAuth 2.0 bearer token can be used instead of the key pair, not alongside it. Placeholder only: never paste a real key into this site. |
| x-user-keyrequired | string | Your user key from Settings > Trading > API Key Management. Each key is tied to one environment (Demo or Real) and to Read or Write permission. Placeholder only. |
Request
Written from the method, path and parameters recorded on this page. No demo host is recorded as a plain address for this API, so the samples read the base address from an environment variable. Not executed against a live or demo account. Credentials are read from environment variables on your own machine and are never entered on this site. The request builder writes these same snippets, from the same record.
This call takes a request body. The record marks no body field as required, so the samples send an empty JSON object with a Content-Type of application/json (in Python, passing json= sets that header). Add the fields the call needs from the parameters above before the request can succeed.
