# OANDA order rejection and cancel reason: CLIENT_TRADE_ID_ALREADY_EXISTS

## What does CLIENT_TRADE_ID_ALREADY_EXISTS mean on the OANDA API?

The client trade ID is already assigned to another open trade. As a cancel reason it means filling the order would have created a trade with a client trade ID already in use. OANDA lists this value as both a transaction reject reason and an order cancel reason.

## How do I fix CLIENT_TRADE_ID_ALREADY_EXISTS?

Use an identifier that is not already in use.
