# Node.js system error code: ECONNRESET

Risk warning: CFDs and spread bets are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You can lose money on these products, and each provider publishes its own loss figure under FCA rules. You should consider whether you understand how they work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Automated and API trading can amplify losses through bugs, connectivity failures and runaway orders.

As text you can copy:

```
ECONNRESET
```

- Kind: System error code
- Where you meet it: Raised in your own program, from the operating system
- Read from: [Node.js documentation, Errors, Common system errors](https://nodejs.org/api/errors.html#common-system-errors)
- Status: verified. Source: [nodejs.org](https://nodejs.org/api/errors.html#common-system-errors), checked 2026-10-09.

## What does ECONNRESET mean in Node.js?

Connection reset by peer: a connection was forcibly closed by a peer. Node's documentation says this normally results from a loss of the connection on the remote socket due to a timeout or reboot, and that it is commonly met through the http and net modules.

## What it means in trading API work

The other side dropped an open connection abruptly. If that happened while a request was in flight, you cannot tell whether the request was processed.

This part is this site's own explanation, written for people learning to call a trading API. It is not part of the source cited above and it describes no particular broker.

## What should I do about ECONNRESET?

Reconnect and retry reads. For an order request, read open orders and positions before sending it again. Handle the error event on sockets and requests so that a reset does not stop the whole program.

This page is an independent explanation in plain words. The definition itself is in [the source it was read from](https://nodejs.org/api/errors.html#common-system-errors), which is the authority if the two ever differ.

Where you rely on a single figure, cite the source and the checked date printed beside it as well. Where this page and a broker's own documentation differ, the documentation wins.
