Risk warning: CFDs and spread bets are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You can lose money on these products, and each provider publishes its own loss figure under FCA rules. You should consider whether you understand how they work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Automated and API trading can amplify losses through bugs, connectivity failures and runaway orders.

This error appears after you allow access to a trading account, when the redirect URI in the authorisation request is not one registered against the application. One public thread records it and it was answered there.

Unverified in part: carried over from an earlier version of this site. The links below are the sources it was written from, but its statements have not been re-read at source since the date shown, so check anything you rely on.

## What to try

- Register the exact redirect URI at connect.spotware.com/apps against the application you are authorising, and send that same URI in the authorisation request.
- Do not use a loopback address on a port chosen at runtime, because that URI is never registered and is refused.

Both steps are the answer given on the thread and confirmed there by the asker. We have not run them ourselves.

```
I'm getting the following error after I allow access to my trading account: Error authenticating application: Provided application does not contain provided URI.
## Status: Answered
This is a reading of the public thread on 21 Sep 2026, recorded on the page that lists every thread of this kind. A thread can gain a reply after we read it, so check the link rather than trust us.
## What we know
- The asker hit it at the authorisation step, after allowing access to their trading account, and quoted the message in full.
- The thread was answered: the first reply came in about 13 hours and the fix was confirmed about two days later.
- The answer on the thread: the redirect URI in the authorisation request has to be one already registered against the application at connect.spotware.com/apps. A loopback address on a port chosen at runtime is never registered, so it is refused.
## What we do not know
- Whether the message has been reworded since 2021. We have not produced it against a live application ourselves.
- Whether anything other than an unregistered redirect URI produces it. The thread records one cause, not every cause.
